Erie League set to kick off ninth seasonWelcome to the 1998 Erie Fantasy Football League Season! By now the question has to be: Is anyone EVER going to repeat? LTP owner Don Jones (left) became the eighth different person to capture the title with a 60-59 victory over Brad Rzyczycki's Cosmic Monsters in last year's Fantasy Bowl. Congratulations go out to Jones and his co-owner Steve Suder. Rumor has it a third person will join their ownership group at this year's draft, looking to help in the bid for a repeat. Stay tuned... We will once again have 16 teams battling for the right to be called Fantasy Bowl Champion. A few changes have been made this season, among them the Franchise Player amendement. For the first time, all owners will have the opportunity to name a franchise player that will carry over to their 1999 roster. The cost will be $20, payable to the league fund. In addition, the playoff pool will expand to 12 teams this year, enabling more owners the chance to cash in on the big money at the end of the season. All division winners will receive a first round bye and a bonus check in the amount of $40. A couple of dates for you to remember include: The 1998 Draft Lottery - Tue. Aug. 4, 6 p.m. at the Medical Specialties Warehouse and the 1998 Draft - Sun. Aug. 30, 10 a.m. at the same location. To get in on the action again this year, simply fill out the entry form and return it with $75 to:
The deadline for guaranteeing a spot in this year's league is Tuesday, August 4th - the day of the draft lottery. Plan to be at the lottery to pay if I haven't received your $75 by the 3rd. Beginning the next day -- if I haven't heard from you -- I will mail entry forms to those on our waiting list. Then it becomes first to pay is first to play. If you know you are not playing this year, please let us know early so we can round up some new candidates and check their credentials. Former Black Diamonds GM Joe Nunney has accepted a position with the league office and will serve as the Erie League Vice President of Operations/Special Events Coordinator. Nunney's first order of business will be maintaining the flow of the 1998 draft so I can concentrate on picking a quality team. For those basketball fans out there, you'll find Nunney's position to be closely paralleled to NBA VP Rod Thorn. The scoring system will be combined (points for touchdowns and yards) so prepare accordingly. Good luck! See you at Draft Day '98.
