History: Seeing the amount of hype that was surrounding Vince McMahon's new XFL Football League, Commissioner Kirk Pavelich developed a fantasy game that would use the players involved in the WWF-NBC joint venture. The Erie XFL League officially took shape on Sunday, Jan. 28, 2001 when the following charter members met via conference call for the first player draft: Toledo Terrorists (Mike Kuratko), Louisville Snuffers (Brent Holsclaw), Macon Whoopie (John Thiem), Iceland King Lips Void (Brad Rzyczycki), Bulgarian Ballbusters (Kirk Pavelich) and Sagamore Hills Sharks (Matt Rzycyzcki). The Terrorists selected RB Pepe Pearson with the first overall pick. Other first round picks included: QB Jeff Brohm (#2 - Snuffers), QB Marcus Crandell (#3 - Whoopie), RB Joe Aska (#4 - King Lips Void), QB Casey Weldon (#5 - Ballbusters), and RB John Avery (#6 - Sharks). Although television ratings were outstanding during the opening weekend of play, they would soon drop off dramatically in the weeks that followed. When the Erie XFL's regular season ended after eight weeks, most of the country - and a few of the fantasy football participants as well - had lost interest. The final regular season standings were: Bulgarian Ballbusters 7-1, Iceland King Lips 7-1, Sagamore Hills Sharks 5-3, Louisville Snuffers 3-5, Toledo Terrorists 2-6, and Macon Whoopee 0-8. In the playoffs, the Ballbusters upended the Snuffers 59.6 to 25.2 and the King Lips knocked off the Sharks 69.2 to 21.45, setting up an XFL final between Kirk Pavelich and Brad Rzyczycki. Led by solid starts from QB Jim Druckenmiller and RB Saladin McCullough, Pavelich defeated Rzyczycki 41 to 27.6 in the first and only XFL title game. The league officially folded after just one season of play on May 10, 2001.
