History of the award: At the end of the 1996 season,
Commissioner Kirk Pavelich called for the league’s owners to
vote
for the NFL Player that contributed the most to the post-season success of his
respective Erie League team. Starting in 1999, the award was given automatically
to the player from the Erie League Championship team that had scored the most
points during that team’s playoff run.
