Let the trash talking begin

Controversial trade, Donkey pictures, finally get smack started

Two weeks ago, Titlebound Two co-owners J.P. Dougherty and Brett Harney (pictured right) dealt QB Peyton Manning to the Psychedelic B's for WR Rod Gardner. At the time, Manning was having a solid season and Gardner was coming off a 17.8 point Week Two effort. The grumblings started immediately, with some calling for the removal of the Titlebound Two franchise by next season, for not only missing the draft but making what was considered a lopsided trade. The grumblings got worse when Manning threw six touchdowns a week ago en route to a 39.8 point performance.

"The reason we missed the draft was because I was out of town for a family reason, my partner and I got the dates wrong and he went to the wrong draft," Dougherty said. "As far as Manning for Gardner, since we missed the draft (our fault) we didn't exactly get the cream of the crop team, we had to make due with what we had. We had no running backs, no receivers and a good QB. We picked up Fiedler who at the time had more points on the board than Manning. Since you can only play one QB we chose to keep Fiedler and trade Manning.

"I'm not going to defend the decision to take Gardner, I made the trade and I don't regret it," he added. "As for the owner who thinks we should get kicked out of the league, why don't you worry about your own team. Sounds like 2nd grade to me -- kick someone out because you don't like they way they operate. What a joke, get a life!"

Team Bud GM Jody Barth admitted he was a week late with his complaint, but still thought it was important to let everyone know what he thought of the deal with one of his division rivals.

"Sorry I am a week late but I missed the bullshit trade between Titlebound Two and the Bitches," Barth said. "Pav, seriously I thought that we had a league committee to veto bullshit trades! I agree those two TEA BAGGERS should not be back next year. Vince negotiated the trade like this -- 'you know I can run smack on you two BUTT PIRATES all year or you could trade me Peyton Manning.'"

Coincidentally, Vince has yet to be heard from this year.

Even Titlebound Two co-owner Brett Harney admitted he had some reservations about the deal.

"I think my partner is sucking face with the transaction clerk on Thursday nights," Harney said.

The trade brought on such a reaction that even former owner and trash talking legend Storm Thomas took the time to add his two cents.

When I saw Pav riding a jackass (pictured left) I thought, Pav needs to get off Harney's back!" Thomas said. "How dare that jackass chastise me for not making last year's draft and then not show up this year!!!!!  Isn't that team run by two people?  I've made plenty of boneheaded trades, but Gardner for Manning?? Gimme a break. Dumb and Dumber isn't a movie, it is a reality show now playing in the Erie League!"

In the action on the field, Stonehenge remains the only undefeated team in the Erie League, as they won their fourth straight, upending the King Salmons, 78.90 to 71.30.

Dave Collins and the Dayton Penatrators knocked the Hostile Omish from the ranks of the unbeatens with a convincing 122.45 to 95.55 victory. The Penatrators (3-1) are averaging 99.6 points per week. The big win also brought out this year's first AP article out of the Dayton area. Click here to read "Penatrators set to make quick work of league."

Top Week Four performers included: QB Peyton Manning, who totaled 39.8 points for both the Psychedelic B's and the King Salmons, WR Randy Moss, who scored 35.2 points for both the No Limit Ballers and Gridiron Gods, and WR Marvin Harrison, who netted 33.8 points as a starter for the Midnight Vigilantes and Deerslayers.

Just for your information, the web site allows you to make changes to your starters up until the kickoff of the 1 p.m. games. Your best bet is to submit a lineup early in the week and then to watch all the late breaking news to see if you need to make any changes. This software allows you to do it right up until the time the first games start. Therefore, always consider the last starting lineup you receive from an opponent to be the official one.

To get your own smack talk printed on The Sports Page, either send an e-mail to the commissioner (KPAVELICH@neo.rr.com) or you can do it yourself on the league's message board. Go to http://football5.myfantasyleague.com/2003/mb/board_show.pl?bid=200329111  , to talk some trash in this fashion.

QUOTES OF THE WEEK

"Tickets to the county fair - $5

Tickets to buy beer - $1

Tickets to pet the animals - 50 cents

Watching Kirk Pavelich star in Animal's Gone Wild - Porno Style - PRICELESS!" Team Bud GM Jody Barth, commenting on the photo appearing last week and this week of commissioner Kirk Pavelich riding a donkey.

"For the All-American Conference, the transaction night is Thursday Oct. 2nd.  Transaction night will be on Thursday from now on. For those in the Brown Conference, blow me." Psychedelic B's GM Bryan Vince, who is also serving this year as the All-American transaction night clerk.

"If you only had a dick." Donikers-DTL owner Sam Profio, a member of the Browns Conference, responding to Vince's email.
